With just over three months remaining to the start of the football season for Montana State University and the University of Montana, Athlon Sports released preseason rankings, which list the Bobcats at No. 3 and the Griz at No. 10.

Last season, MSU started off their season as the No. 4 team in the country, while UM entered the 2022-23 season as No. 3 via Stats Perform.

MSU would remain unbeaten among any FCS-caliber team they played on their schedule until falling to No. 1 seed South Dakota State in the FCS playoff semifinals in Brookings, SD.

MSU would claim a Big Sky Conference championship title that was shared with fellow conference opponent Sacramento State, as the Hornets’ regular-season stint left them undefeated in conference play as well.

MSU will enter the 2023-24 season with the longest active home win streak in the FCS, with 20-consecuative wins at Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats’ first game of the season will be played at home against Utah Tech on Sept. 2.

The Griz finished their season 8-5, with a tough loss on the road in Fargo to No. 3 NDSU in the FCS playoffs.

UM football will play their first game of the 2023-24 season in Missoula on Sept. 2 against Butler.
